If something is wrong with a number the app has given you, include the version from the top of the app screen — it says which build you are on, and the answer usually depends on it.
Things people ask
My readiness number went down and I did not eat anything
Two things move it without you touching the shelf. Expiry dates arrive, and a tin that is out of date stops counting. And adding a person to the household divides the same store between more people. Both are the number being honest rather than the app losing track.
It says I have two days of water and my cupboard is full
The number is set by whatever runs out first, not by the average. Three litres a person a day adds up faster than anything else on the list, so water is the usual limit. Collected water only counts once you can treat it — a filter, tablets, or a stove and fuel to boil with.
The barcode scanner cannot find my product
The barcode database is good on branded groceries and thin on supermarket own brands. Type the name instead; nothing is lost by doing it that way, and the shelf life and calories can be edited afterwards.
Why does the shopping list send me to Amazon?
Because it is where the products can actually be bought, and because the commission is what keeps the app's free tier free. It never changes what the app tells you to buy — the list is worked out from your own store and your own target, and the link is added at the end. As an Amazon Associate, Provision earns from qualifying purchases.
How do I cancel Plus?
On iPhone or iPad, Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or the manage or cancel button in the app's settings, which opens the same screen. On Android, the equivalent in the Play Store. On the web, the billing page linked from settings. You keep Plus until the end of the period you have paid for.
How do I delete my account?
Settings → delete account. It removes the account, the household, the store, the equipment answers and the reminders in a single step, and it is not recoverable afterwards. You can export everything first from the same screen.
Is my household data shared with anyone?
No. What you enter is used to work out your numbers and nothing else. The privacy notice says exactly what is stored, why, and how long for.
Where the data comes from
Barcode lookups come from Open Food Facts, a community-built database of groceries, used under the Open Database Licence. It is crowd-sourced, so it is excellent on branded groceries and patchy on own brands — and if a pack size looks wrong, it is worth correcting at the source as well as in the app.
Product names and links in the shopping list come from Amazon, used under the Associates programme. Calories and nutrition for unbranded staples — rice, flour, dried pasta — are standard composition values for the foodstuff rather than readings from any particular packet, which is why they do not change when you buy a different brand.
